beth-ā´noth (בּית ענות, bēth‛ănōth; Βαιθανάμ, Baithanám, "house of answers," probably “House of Anath” - a god; Joshua 15:59):

A city in the mountainous district of Judah (Joshua 15:59). It has been identified with the modern Beit-'Anun, about 3 miles northeast of Hebron. The ruin of Beit ‛Ainûn, 1 1/2 miles Southeast of Halhûl, in the neighborhood also of Bethzur and Gedor - places mentioned in association with it as towns in the hill country of Judah - appears to be a probable site. The present surface ruins belong to later ages.
