Immortality

Perpetuity of existence. The doctrine of immortality is taught in the Old Testament. It is plainly implied in the writings of Moses (Gen_5:22, Gen_5:24; Gen_25:8; Gen_37:35; Gen_47:9; Gen_49:29, compare Heb_11:13-16; Exo_3:6, compare Mat_22:23). It is more clearly and fully taught in the later books (Isa_14:9; Psa_17:15; Psa_49:15; Psa_73:24). It was thus a doctrine obviously well known to the Jews.

With the full revelation of the gospel this doctrine was “brought to light” (2Ti_1:10; 1 Cor. 15; 2Co_5:1-6; 1Th_4:13-18).
