mā´gor-mis´a-bib (מגור מסּביב, māghōr miṣṣābhībh, “terror on every side” or "fear on every side"):

A symbolical name given by Jeremiah to the priest Pashur ben Immer, the governor of the temple, who had caused the prophet to be beaten and set in the stocks (Jeremiah 20:3), expressive of the fate announced by the prophet as about to come upon him. Pashur was to be carried to Babylon, and there die. The same expression is used (not as a proper name) in several other passages (Psalm 31:13; Jeremiah 6:25; Jeremiah 20:10; Jeremiah 46:5; Jeremiah 49:29; Lamentations 2:22).
