shim´ḗ-a (שׁמעא, shim‛ā', "the hearing prayer"):

(1) One of David’s brothers (1 Samuel 16:9, marg.). See Shammah.

(2) One of David’s sons by Bathsheba (1 Chronicles 3:5); called also Shammua (1 Chronicles 14:4). (Codex Vaticanus Σάμαν, Sáman; but in 2 Samuel 5:14; 1 Chronicles 14:4, “Shammua”).

(3) A Merarite Levite i.e. Levite of the family of Merari (1 Chronicles 6:30, Codex Vaticanus Σομέα, Soméa; Codex Alexandrinus Σαμά, Samá, Lucian, Σαμαά, Samaá).

(4) A Gershonite Levite i.e. a Levite of the family of Gershon (1 Chronicles 6:39 (24), Σεμαά, Semaá).
